Bump (A Christmas Film)

MOVIE

For almost five years, the Boxing Day release of Bump has become an unofficial Australian Christmas tradition – but Bump has never done Christmas.

Now, a fun, subversive Christmas feature follows the misadventures of the extended Bump family as Rosa takes them on a South American cruise in an attempt to reconnect with her roots. Set at a happy point between episodes 509 and 510 of the five-series story, with Angie still alive and well and Santi and Oly’s second baby Angelo just a few months old, the family's hopes for a festive, cultural Christmas reunion unravels in a series of chaotic events.

The film gleefully subverts Australian Christmas movie tropes by replacing backyard barbies with turbulent seas, and offsets its complicated but relatable family dynamics with vibrant Latin dancing and quarantined cabin fever, soundtracked brilliantly by the adept Filipino-Latin fusion cover band that does two sets a night in the Paradiso Bar. It offers Bump’s unique, humorous take on messy families, cultural identity, and the unpredictable nature of life, all wrapped up in a feel-good holiday comedy.
