Failed medical interns get their last shot at Sydney's underfunded Pines Hospital, where they battle to overcome personal shortcomings and past mistakes in the hope of finally becoming doctors.

A new cohort of medical graduates joins the Pines Hospital’s intern program. This is their last chance; after each of them failed their first year as an intern doctor. Every shift they face their fears and frailties in life-or-death situations – premature pregnancies, runaway retirees, impossible surgeries – all while battling bureaucracy and learning on the job in an underfunded public hospital. Sparks fly inside and out of the hospital, illicit workplace romances burn bright and lifelong friendships blossom. They learn how to care for their patients, each other, and themselves, on the path to becoming the doctors they dream of being.
